They Used to be Patriots, But Not Anymore

In Blood and Thunder, Hampton Sides interweaves several fascinating stories from the American West of the early to mid 1800's -- Kit Carson's life, Kearney's invasion of New Mexico, and Fremont's exploration (and invasion) of California.

At several points, in discussing citizens of the U.S. who were living outside her borders at the time, he mentions "expatriots". The word intended, of course, is "expatriate".

Other than that, I'm enjoying the book very much and would recommend it highly.
